First Chinese American Congresswoman

Despite the mess California is in, it has been a happy month for Asian Americans in the state.  Judy Chu (D-CA) of 32nd district was elected last week, making her the first Chinese American Congresswoman ever!  About freakin’ time!

Chu’s political career is extensive, having served three terms as mayor of Monterey Park and five years in the California State Assembly. Since 2006, Chu has served on the California State Board of Equalization, the country’s only elected tax commission. Congrats Judy!
