The song is alright…nothing special…but the vid is damnn hot!  In my opinion, Ciara was always hotter than Beyonce (and doesn’t do those pretentious constipated sounding solos).

Urban Outfitters is coming out with a new cosmetics palette inspired by Pollock’s work. The palette comes in two shades: a blue pattern for eyes, and a bronze one for face and cheeks.  I’m not sure how I feel about the one for the eyes.  Having undefined splotches kind of defeats the purpose of an eyeshadow…a pink for blush would have been more suitable.  Either way, I’m surprised no one has thought of this before…For only $10, you can have a little masterpiece in your makeup bag!

Lovely Italian short movie made from 4500+ still photographs.  Shot with a Canon EOS 30D camera

A girl misses her train to Milan and is set to wait overnight in Rome until dawn. However, a chance encounter with a guy changes her plans and the night lights of the capital turn into the background to a tender love story. An extraordinary chemistry made of knowing glances and small gestures fills the few instants that separate them both from the sunrise.

What Diversity?

March 19, 2009

An article was posted in Dartmouth’s Asian American and Cross-Cultural Magazine, Main Street, in response to the controversy surrounding the selection of Dr. Jim Yong Kim as the university’s first Asian American president.   If you haven’t heard about it, here are a couple links:

As of 2006, according to information provided by the American Council on Education, Asian Americans comprised only 0.9% of college presidents. While college & university presidencies have undoubtedly diversified over the past few decades, the rate of growth has slowed, and the growth rate for Asian Americans in particular has been marginal. Among elite colleges and universities, only UC Berkeley has ever been led by an Asian American.

Demographics of College Presidents, 2006 and 1986

Demographic characteristic 2006 1986
Women 23.0% 9.5%
Black 5.9% 5.0%
Hispanic 4.6% 2.2%
Asian American 0.9% 0.4%
American Indian 0.7% 0.5%
Other or multiple race 1.5% na
All minority 13.6% 8.1%
Age 50 or younger 8.1% 41.6%
Age 51-60 42.6% 44.4%
Age 61 or older 49.3% 13.9%
Average years in position 8.5 6.3

It is interesting to see such a small increase in Asian American presidents compared to all other races.  Unlike American Indians, the Asian American population has rapidly increased in the past 20 years.  So then why is there such a discrepancy?

Beautiful packaging from Australian cosmetic company, Mor Cosmetics.  Shown is a lip balm, body oil, and lotion.  I don’t even care if the products suck or not, I want!
